Interview QuestionsA few years back I had my students create questions to ask new incoming students. These interview questions have evolved throughout the years and we have it down to a rating scale. I usually only have my current officers interview students. I prep them so we are all on the same page as far as what we are looking for. I donít give them specific answers because I know they will tell their friends, but we talk about how to grade them. The rate each response 1-10 and then add the total at the bottom. I then take the totals and divide by the total number of students that are rating the applicant. We then take that average and rank the students. Anyone in the 90% and above is in. Depending on how many applicants we have I usually have 70% - 89% come back for a second group interview.IMAGES

Second InterviewAfter we separate our top picks and cut out our bottom of the barrel, we are left with that group in the middle. With that group we have them come in for a second interview. I usually start by leaving the class and asking them to do an activity like clean up my messy room. While I am gone, I have a few ASB kids watching them to see how they work when I am not around. Then when I come back we do some group activities. I start by having them each fill out a form on how they would spend money for a dance and write down some ideas of things to do at their dance. Then I have them get into small groups and I give them a blank form (same one) to come together as a group and fill out. While they are doing this my ASB students have a clip board with all of the students that are trying out for ASB on the list and they take notes on each one to see how they interact as a group. After this activity I take them outside and do some group activity like getting out of a knot. Again I have my ASB students watching how they interact with each other. When we are all done, I excuse the applicants and we have a discussion on each student and decide who will become our new ASB members.IMAGES
